Lunch Launch Poetry Reading

The 2012 Writer in Residence programme was launched on January 24th with a talk and poetry reading by the award-winning poet and children’s author, Enda Wyley. Enda has been writer in residence in Marino since 2010 and, building on the work of her predecessor, Ireland’s first children’s laureate Siobhán Parkinson, Enda has developed a rich and varied programme comprising poetry workshops, creative writing workshops, children’s book talks and the poetry by email project open to all on campus. This year the residency has been extended to include the new BSc. students and the teachers on the Reading Recovery programme. The Writer in Residence programme  is coordinated by Ciara Ní Bhroin and sponsored by Poetry Ireland/ Éigse Éireann, whose Education Officer, Jane O’ Hanlon attended the launch. The programme will run from January until the end of May and details will be posted on the website and on notices around campus.

A Profile of Enda Wyley- MIE Writer in Residence 2012

Enda Wyley  was born in Dublin. Her four poetry collections with Dedalus Press are Eating Baby Jesus (1993), Socrates in the Garden (1998), Poems for Breakfast (2004 and her most recent collection, To Wake to This (2009). Enda holds an M.A. in creative writing from Lancaster University and has received several Arts Council Bursaries and awards for her poetry. Her work has been widely anthologized, broadcast and translated into other languages. Most recently she has been included in The Wake Forest Anthology of Irish Women’s Poetry and The Harvard Anthology of Modern Irish Poetry. Enda is a primary school teacher in Rutland St. Pre-School in Dublin where she has a post of responsibility as arts coordinator for the school. Enda also writes for children. Her books for children include The Silver Notebook (O’Brien Press, 2007) and I Won’t Go to China! (O’Brien Press, 2009).
