Lóchrann launches a new Post Graduate Diploma in Intercultural Education

The Centre for Intercultural Education has launched a new Post Graduate Diploma in Intercultural Education with courses commencing in October 2009. This is an innovative course using face-to-face and online learning approaches. It will be of particular interest to educators from formal and non-formal sectors who are concerned with social justice, inclusion and diversity.

Lóchrann, the Centre for Intercultural Education, reflects a commitment to equality, social justice and respect for diversity. These are core principles which underpin all activities at Coláiste Mhuire, Marino Institute of Education. Lóchrann aims to enhance the development of best practice in intercultural education in Ireland, this is achieved through the activities identified below.

Through teaching, learning and research, Lóchrann:

  • Offers courses relevant to contemporary issues in intercultural education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Provides teacher education courses (pre-service and in-service) on Teaching English as an Additional Language
  • Develops quality resource materials and strategies for intercultural education
  • Informs best practice by initiating research focusing on intercultural experiences within schools and the wider educational community
  • Enables access to key materials for intercultural education.

Through the development of school and community links, Lóchrann:

  • Builds professional capacity for engagement with diversity within schools, as exemplified in the Education Inclusion Initiative
  • Fosters collaborative links with relevant national and international organisations and statutory bodies.
