Information For Students

Early Childhood Room

As a student of Coláiste Mhuire Marino you will engage in a number of Teaching Practice placements during your time here in College.  In order to support you in your preparation for school placements we have devised specific guidelines which inform both your preparation and your practice in the school.  These guidelines deal with such issues as confidentiality, attendance and punctuality, professional attitude and attire and the importance of professional relationships with pupils and school personnel.  For further information click here

These guidelines are based on the Code of Professional Practice as devised by Coláiste Mhuire in conjunction with Trinity College Dublin and the other affiliated colleges Froebel College of Education and Church of Ireland College of Education. To see this document click here.

 ‘Taithí Scoile’ or School Experience

School experience or ‘Taithí Scoile’ involves you, as a First and Second year student engaging in serial observation over the course of a number of weeks.  During this time you are expected to assist the class teacher in whatever manner possible and to complete a series of reflections and observations.
First Year students spend a series of Fridays in the first term and a week in the second term on ‘Taithí Scoile.’
Second Year students spend a week during the second term on ‘Taithí Scoile.’

It is recommended that students engage in Taithí Scoile in the classroom where you will complete your home based Teaching Practice that year.  This helps you to develop a positive relationship with both pupils and class teacher as well as to become familiar with the class routines and structures.
