PG Dip. Spirituality & Leadership in Education

Aims of the Programme:

This one-year programme aims to provide participants with the knowledge, values and skills in Catholic educational leadership that will enable them to facilitate efficient and effective leadership and administrative practices.

·    To ensure familiarity with and confidence in articulating a distinctively Catholic approach to education, particularly in the Irish school system;
·    To examine various perspectives and theories of leadership in general and relate these to mission, culture, strategic planning and decision making in Catholic schools and colleges;
·    To foster a culture of leadership within the school community;
·    To provide an overview of the legislative framework within which schools operate;
·    To introduce participants to the nature and function of governance;
·    To facilitate a deepening of the participants’ own spirituality and how it might be applied so that they become agents of spiritual renewal.

Leadership behaviour is one of the most critical determinants of how organisations develop. This programme provides opportunities for participants to develop their leadership capacity and nurture their personal spiritual growth.  It provides opportunities for inner work and sustenance so that they and their organisations can flourish. Such spiritual formation of leaders must become central to Catholic education, particularly in this era of lay Trusteeship.

Participants will feel more confident in exercising and supporting a spiritual leadership role in a secular and multicultural reality.  A significant focus of the programme will be on transformative learning and the integration of learning by the participants. Assessment of this element will play an integral role in the final viva examination.
