Research / Professional Interests
Professional Development both at pre-service and in-service level.
Research projects include the teaching and learning of Irish in schools serving areas of disadvantage, children's attitudes to the learning of Irish in primary schools (current research project) and the use of a distant mentoring programme for the induction of newly qualified teachers.
Publications
I am presently working as an advisory editor for the new Irish series by Prim-Ed publications which is due to be in schools for 2008/9.
Biography
I am currently on secondment from St.Paul's SNS in Drogheda, a DEIS Band 1 school, where I am a special duties post holder. In recent years I have taught predominantly 5th and 6th classes as well as a Specific Learning Difficulties class for children with dyslexia.
Whilst working in St.Pauls I acted as a mentor to the newly qualified teachers who joined our school and supported them in their journey into the teaching profession.
I currently work, part time, as an induction co-ordinator for the National Pilot Project for Teacher Induction. This work involves the design and delivery of professsional development courses for newly qualified teachers, mentors and principals, school visits and phone contact with schools in the project as well as research pertaining to the development of the induction programme in Ireland. This work compliments the delivery of my Professional Development lectures at pre-service level.
Awards
Scholarship awarded by St. Patrick's College Drumcondra for completion of M.Ed Programme.
