EiTTT Project Team in Latvia

Partners and colleagues involved in the EiTTT project gathered in Riga, Latvia for the week of 26th – 30th November 2018.  This, the sixth and final Learning Activity week of the project was a wonderful success.  Project partner Iveta Liepina with colleagues Laura Zavacka and Natasa Dilba had prepared a most comprehensive programme of presentations, in-class observations, school and university visits and cultural activities that afforded us a unique insight into life and education in Lativa.  We were based at Rigas 45. Vidusskola, a primary, basic, and second-level school in Riga with an enrolment of over 700 students.  Our focus was the school’s ‘Social Education’ programme and specifically its full-time, on-site support team comprising support teachers, a psychologist, a speech and language therapist and a social educator (‘pedagogue’).  We observed how the activities of this team, together with the music-centred curriculum of the school, underpin its inclusive education agenda.   We were privileged to have principals and staff in each of the schools, centres and universities we visited give so generously of their time to us at this busy stage of year, and above all to be afforded opportunities to observe and appreciate the talents of all the students and children in their care.  MIE lecturers Deirdre Murphy, Melanie Eggleston and Miriam Colum accompanied EiTTT project coordinator Anne Ryan at this Learning Activity.
