MIE Graduate Wins LAI Award for Outstanding Thesis

Congratulations to MIE graduate Paula Fitzsimmons on receiving the Literary Association of Ireland (LAI) award for an outstanding Master’s thesis, 2017. The presentation took place at the recent LAI national conference held in MIE on October 5-6. Paula undertook her work as part of her M.E.S. (Intercultural Education) in MIE. Her thesis, entitled A critical analysis of standardised testing of minority language children, was based on an examination of the use of a variety of standardised assessments with minority language children in an Irish primary school. The work was deemed to be of exceptionally high quality by the panel of reviewers. Paula has progressed to the School of Education, Trinity College, where she will undertake doctoral work in the area under Dr Rory Mc Daid (MIE) and Dr Stephen James Minton (TCD).
