The President of Marino Institute of Education, Professor Teresa O’Doherty was delighted to welcome Minister Patrick O’Donovan, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science to the Marino Institute of Education (MIE) campus yesterday. Minister O’Donovan was accompanied by Cllr. Naoise Ó Muirí, Clontarf Electoral Area.

Minister O’Donovan thanked Professor O’Doherty for the excellent work being undertaken by the Institute in the realm of teacher education, and the work being done to support education across a broad range of settings. The Minister commended MIE on the vital work undertaken in preparing primary level teachers who are equipped to teach in all school types, including parish schools, Educate Together schools, Community National Schools, Gaelscoileanna and Gaeltacht schools.  Minister O’Donovan paid tribute to the special contribution that MIE makes to Irish-language-medium education as the only provider nationally of teacher education through the medium of Irish.

Recognising the position of MIE as a valued partner in education but one that lies outside of the Higher Education Authority (HEA) the Minister invited MIE to engage with the HEA, to discuss potential avenues for future collaboration and development. MIE welcomes this invitation.
