The degree suits in particular students who wish to teach through the medium of Irish but graduates of the degree will also be entitled to apply for teaching positions in English medium schools. 

No, but it is envisaged that Gaeltacht and All-Irish schools will be very interested in employing graduates who have undertaken their teacher education through the medium of Irish.    

There will be 35 places on the degree in September, 2020. It is not possible to predict the CAO points required for entry in any given year as there are a number of variables that can influence points for a particular course. For the purpose of general information only, the points requirement in 2019/2020 was 491 (i.e. 451 points from the Leaving Certificate plus 40 points from the TEG Level B1 Examination). The points entry requirements for the Bachelor in Education (through the medium of English) in 2019 was 453 (TEG points are not added for the Bachelor in Education through the medium of English). 

Yes, with the exception of modules in “English” and “The Teaching of English”.

Yes, all School Placements including the Special Education School Placement will be undertaken in Irish medium schools. In those School Placements, English will be taught through the medium of English. It will not be possible to undertake any School Placements in English medium schools.   

The CAO Code CM003 can be used by any student. The CAO Code CM004 is an additional CAO Code for prospective students who live in the Gaeltacht. Approximately 10% of places in the Baitsiléir san Oideachas Trí Mheán na Gaeilge will be reserved for Gaeltacht students who meet the minimum entry requirements.

Yes, there will be another opportunity to do the TEG Level B1 Examinations on 14th May, 2022 in Maynooth University. To register for the 14th May Examination, please go to www.teg.ie. Please note that this will be the final opportunity to undertake the TEG Level B1 examination if wishing to be considered for 2022 entry.

Yes. With regard to CAO points for the Baitsiléir san Oideachas Trí Mheán na Gaeilge only, 40 extra points will be awarded to each student who obtains a Pass (50%) or higher in the TEG Level B1 Examinations. 40 points is the maximum number of points which will be awarded and no extra points beyond that will be awarded to any student who obtains a mark higher than 50% or who obtains a TEG grade higher than Level B1.

Students who undertake the TEG Level B1 examinations on 26th February must send a certified copy of their results to the Admissions Office, Marino Institute of Education, Griffith Avenue, Dublin 9 DO9 R232 before Friday, 29 April, 2022. Other TEG applicants (e.g. those who undertake the examination on 14th May) must send in their certified results to the MIE Admissions Office before Monday, 4 July, 2022. Applicants should obtain proof of postage when sending their documentation. Please be advised that we may also contact TEG to verify your result. In order to certify a document, you must bring the original document and a photocopy of it to a competent authority (such as a lawyer, Commissioner for Oaths, medical doctor, justice of the peace, university administrator, local law enforcement officer e.g. Garda Síochána, etc.). That authority must then stamp and sign the photocopy to certify that the photocopy is a true copy of the original. Please ensure to quote your CAO number when submitting your TEG certificate. 

If you have undertaken the TEG Level B1 examination within the last three years prior to entry and have achieved 50% or higher, you do not have to do the TEG Level B1 Examination again. The onus is on the student to send a certified copy of those results to Marino Institute of Education by 6 July at the latest.
