Irish-Aid MIE_2015_TCD_E---Copy

Project Description

Just Trade, Just Connections: A teaching resource about Africa was a collaborative initiative between MIE and Proudly Made in Africa, a UK and Ireland based NGO that builds sustainable channels to market for African products and promotes the idea of ‘trade not aid’. The pack was written to support teaching about global citizenship, specifically focusing on trade justice. Just Trade, Just Connections was written in 2016 by Tom Larkin and Liz Morris with support from MIE seed-funding. Two members of Proudly Made in Africa were content consultants: Conall O’Caoimh and Penelope Muzanenhamo. Just Trade was edited by Barbara O’Toole. It was piloted by six teachers in May / June 2016: Eileen Keane, Elaine Haverty, Jessica Hughes, Laura O’Shaughnessy, Paula Murphy, and Lisa Whiston. Four of these teachers gathered classroom data from the implementation of the lessons (Elaine Haverty, Laura O’Shaughnessy, Paula Murphy and Lisa Whiston), and over the following year these data were analysed by Barbara O’Toole, Elaine Haverty and Paula Murphy (and presented at the ECER conference in August 2017). Phase 2: Following a successful application to Irish Aid for funding from the Development Education Annual Grants in 2017, Just Trade was edited and re-designed based on feedback from the piloting teachers and from analysis of classroom data. Re-design was carried out by Barbara Wilson, a development education consultant, and Barbara O' Toole, with support from Conall O’Caoimh.
