Project Description
Providing a broad experience in the arts is integral throughout a child’s experience in primary school. The arts give expression and extend children’s understanding, their imagination, and their creativity through a broad range of experiences. Such experiences have the capacity to engage, inspire and enrich all children, exciting the imagination and encouraging them to reach their creative and expressive potential. Broad ranging experiences in the arts including visual arts, music, drama, dance, film and digital media play a valuable role in children’s experience of childhood and help them to participate fully in their community and in society. The Draft Primary Curriculum Framework recognises that while disciplines within Arts Education have a common creative process and share transferable skills, each has its own knowledge, concepts, skills and intrinsic value. (NCCA, 2020, p. 13). This project will deliver a comprehensive literature review to support the NCCA in the development of a curriculum specification for the curriculum area of Arts Education.
