Biography
Cristín is a teacher and lecturer with a particular interest in creativity and the role of the arts in education. She holds a Bachelor of Education and a Master’s in Visual Arts Education from Marino Institute of Education. Prior to joining MIE, she worked as a primary school teacher and has also gained experience in adult education in Ireland and internationally, including through Conradh na Gaeilge and through education and professional development work in Cambodia. She also led the Creative Schools process within her school, supporting the development of creativity and arts engagement across the school community.
Her Master’s research explored children’s views of their creative abilities in Visual Arts Education, placing children’s voices at the centre of the research. The research examined children’s experiences and understandings of creativity, including the importance of inspiration, time and space for ideas to develop, experimentation, creative confidence and the influence of others on the creative process. Her current teaching and professional interests centre on children’s creativity and voice, and on supporting teachers to create meaningful opportunities for creative thinking and expression through Visual Arts education.
