Seachtain na Gaeilge Celebrations

Ceolchoirm Sheachtain na Gaeilge

Bhí tús iontach le Seachtain na Gaeilge againn le Ceolchoirm agus Céilí am lóin an tseachtain seo caite.  Ghlac mic léinn, foireann agus páistí ón bpobal Marino páirt ann agus bhí Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, príomhamhránaí le "Altan" inár dteannta, chomh maith le duine ó TG4 - Mol Scéal ar champas ag déanamh taifid agus ceilí bríomhar ina dhiadh sin le Edwina Guckian. Ár mbuíochas le Robbie Irwin, Ray Mac Mánais, Máire Nuinseann, John Carroll agus baill den Cumann Trad as ucht an ceolchoirm a chur ar fáil.

Seachtain na Gaeilge 2026 at Marino Institute of Education commenced with a vibrant lunchtime concert and céilí in the Nagle Rice Sports Hall on 17th February. The event brought together staff, students, local primary school pupils and members of the wider Marino community to celebrate Irish language and cultural traditions through music, song and dance.

A highlight of the launch was the presence of special guest Máiread Ní Mhaonaigh of "Altan" fame, where she performed a duet with her daughter, a current B.Oid student. The celebration also attracted national attention, with Mol Scéal from TG4 recording video footag on campus. The concert featured talented lecturer musicians and students from the Marino Trad Society, whose performances showcased the richness of Irish musical heritage. The event was organised by Ray Mac Manus, Máire Nuinseann and John Carroll under the leadership of Robbie Irwin, with significant support from staff colleagues, the IT team led by Martin Lynch, and the facilities team who prepared the Nagle Rice Sports Hall for the occasion. Following the concert, a lively céilí was led by Artist in Residence Edwina Guckian, encouraging enthusiastic participation from across the college community.

Additional events organised by Cumann Gaelach Marino further enriched the programme across the two weeks, including Pop-Up Gaeltacht evenings, a careers workshop through Irish, a Lá Spóirt on campus, a trip to the Oíche Ollbhál na Gaeilge in Ardee, a Tae agus Plé discussion session, a set-dance workshop, a campus quiz (Tráth na gCeist), film and discussion events, and a relaxed Oíche Chiúin with card and board games, providing students with a wide range of opportunities to engage socially and culturally through the Irish language. The programme concluded with a Sean-nós dance workshop on 10th March, delivered by Artist in Residence Edwina Guckian, offering students, staff members and members of the public a further opportunity to experience and participate in traditional Irish dance practices.
