School Placement

About School Placement

At Marino Institute of Education, we take pride in our comprehensive school placement model, which is designed to foster meaningful professional engagement and development for student teachers. Our placement programme supports a shared vision built on strong partnerships between Marino Institute of Education and participating schools, ensuring open communication, collaborative research, and ongoing professional opportunities.

Students on the B Ed, B.Oid. and the postgraduate Professional Master in Education, spend time in schools on each year of their programme. In accordance with Teaching Council requirements, undergraduate students spend approximately 33 weeks in schools and postgraduate students spend approximately 24 weeks in schools.

Throughout their school placement experience, MIE students benefit from both school-based and HEI-directed activities. These experiences are structured to align with their programme stage, and are supported by clear documentation, mentoring, and dedicated supervision. Our approach to school placement supervision includes comprehensive CPD for tutors, detailed grade descriptors, and thorough communication, as recognised positively by school principals, Treoraí, and our graduates.

MIE’s commitment to excellence in school placement extends to providing enrichment and mentoring support, post-placement interviews for reflective development, and strong evaluation protocols. This ensures that our graduates leave with a deep, holistic understanding of teaching, equipped to make a positive impact in their future classrooms.

Students engage in diverse teaching environments, gaining first-hand experience in varied class levels and educational contexts and learning to collaborate effectively with parents and other stakeholders. Our placement programme also integrates research components that allow students to explore and reflect on their practice, drawing connections between theory and application.
