Up to 20 scholarships each worth €500 will be offered in the following five areas:

  • Volunteering
  • Arts and Culture
  • Cur Chun Cinn na Gaeilge
  • Sports
  • Academic Achievement

Awards will be presented in MIE at a ceremony in November/December to which family members and representatives of the student’s secondary school will be invited.

Please note that only undergraduate students entering through the CAO scheme are eligible for these awards.

Criteria and Application Process for Awards:

In each case, the award will be a maximum of €500. A selection panel will decide on the awarding of the scholarships. Although an attempt will be made to award prizes in all categories, the selection panel will decide how the available scholarships can best be awarded across the five categories. Applications (where required) should be sent to [email protected] by 5.00pm  September 29th 2023.

Volunteering

  • Application for award to be submitted by 5.00pm September 29th 2023
  • Personal statement (max 1,500 words) about contribution made through voluntary activity
  • Reference from 2 people who can vouch for work done
  • Meet minimum course requirements
  • Achieve the points needed for entry
  • The above criteria will be used for shortlisting candidates. Candidates may need to attend an interview for final selection.

Arts and Culture

  • Application for award to be submitted by 5.00pm September 29th 2023
  • Annotated portfolio of work showing achievement in arts (may be in form of video, visual arts, pictures, audio recordings or other media as appropriate)
  • Statement (max 500 words) outlining achievements in the arts
  • Reference from 2 people who can vouch for work done
  • Meet minimum course requirements
  • Achieve the points needed for entry
  • The above criteria will be used for shortlisting candidates. Candidates may be required to audition or present a display of work and/or attend an interview for final selection

Cur Chun Cinn na Gaeilge

  • Iarratas don ghradam faoi 29 Meán Fómhair 2023 de bhliain iontrála
  • Ráiteas a chur ar fáil (uasmhéid 500 focal) a dhéanann mionchur síos ar a bhfuil déanta
  • Cruthaithe go raibh an mac léinn gníomhach i gcur chun cinn na Gaeilge sa scoil nó sa phobal
  • Teistiméireacht ó mhúinteoir nó duine dá lucht aitheantais faoin ngaisce atá déanta
  • Na híosriachtanais iontrála a shásamh
  • Na pointí iontrála a fháil
  • Bainfear úsáid as na critéir thuas chun gearliostú a dhéanamh ar iarrthóirí. D’fhéadfaí iarraidh ar iarrthóirí freastal ar agallamh.

Sports

  • Application for award to be submitted by 5.00pm September 29th 2023
  • Performance at a high level in chosen sport (e.g. minor county level in GAA, representing Ireland at Junior level in a sport, etc.)
  • Personal statement about sporting achievements to date and future plans
  • Commitment to play sports in MIE
  • Meet minimum course requirements
  • Achieve the points needed for entry
  • The above criteria will be used for shortlisting candidates. Candidates may need to attend an interview for final selection.

Academic Achievement

  • No application necessary
  • Will be awarded to a number of students with the highest number of points.
