Library Regulations

The Library and its facilities are for the use of the Staff and Students of Marino Institute of Education.
Entry to the Library and borrowing privileges are provided on the production of a valid MIE Student or Staff card.
Cards must be produced or surrendered if required to do so by a member of the Library staff.
Cards are non-transferable and must only be used by the owner of the card. Improper use of a card may incur a fine.

All Library users are expected to:

  • Observe the regulations in place for the use of the Library and Library material
  • Treat Library staff with courtesy and respect
  • Respect the rights of other Library users

No Library book may be taken out of the Library building except a book of which the loan is permitted and has been recorded by the Library system as being on loan to the reader.

Borrowers are responsible for any items on their card until they are returned and discharged from their account.

Mutilation or defacement of any book or article of Library property is regarded as an offence.

Readers are not allowed to bring visitors into the Library. Admission to the Library is at the discretion of the Librarian.

Readers are not permitted to reserve seats by leaving their belongings or books on seats and desks.

A drinking water fountain is located outside the Library entrance.

Readers are at all times responsible for their own property.

Readers are reminded to be aware of the 24-hour CCTV security system throughout the Library.

Readers are required to comply with the provisions of S.I. No. 277/2020 - Copyright and Related Rights (Certification of Licensing Scheme For Higher Education Institutions) (The Irish Copyright Licensing Agency Limited) Order 2020. Failure to comply may expose the person to potential civil liability and, in the case of a student or staff member of College, to College disciplinary procedures. The attention of readers is drawn to the notice on display beside the photocopying machines in the Library. See Copyright and Related Rights Act (2020) for more details.
