Dr Rory Mc Daid

Rory is a Senior Lecturer in Education in MIE.  He is the Director of Research in the Institute and is Course Leader for the MES (Intercultural Learning and Leadership). Rory is the Director of the Migrant Teacher Project and has published several pieces on this broad topic.

Dr Garret Campbell

Garret is CEO of Global Schoolroom and brings a wide range of experience to the Migrant Teacher Project.  He is a qualified second level teacher with experience in education and management and both in Ireland and internationally.  He has worked as a researcher, teacher, lecturer and teacher educator in Ireland and India and has managed teacher education programmes in Ireland, India, Kenya, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Haiti.

Steering Group Members

The Steering Group oversees the Project, providing valuable perspectives and guidance. Included in the group are researchers and teacher educators, as well as a teacher union representative and two Immigrant Internationally Educated Teachers (one primary and one post-primary). Information about some of the Steering Group members is below.

Carmen

Carmen Aguilella

Originally from Spain, Carmen works as a primary school teacher in West Dublin. She qualified as a teacher in the UK, and now holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Intercultural Education and a Masters in Education from Trinity College Dublin. Carmen's research interests include language education and English as an additional language.

Dr Alison Gilliland

A former primary teacher, Alison is an INTO Senior Official with responsibility for union representative training and member professional development. Alison is also the INTO Equality Officer. She has a track record advocating for a more inclusive and just society underpinned by a socio-economic system that empowers community and engenders both respect and responsibility for human rights and human dignity.

Dr Gene Mehigan

Gene is Principal Lecturer and Director of Post Graduate Studies at Marino Institute of Education. His research interests include literacy education, education provision in disadvantaged settings and teacher education. A member of the Governing Body of MIE, Gene is also a Director of YoungBallymun and President of the Literacy Association of Ireland

Dr Barbara O'Toole

Barbara is a senior lecturer in education at Marino Institute of Education in Dublin, where she lectures in intercultural education and development education. She has been a director of the Master in Education Studies (Intercultural Education) at MIE since 2012, and she lectures on MES modules on English as an additional language and on religious diversity. Current research interests include language education, teacher education, and postcolonial perspectives on global education.

Dr Thomas Walsh

Tom is a lecturer in the Department of Education, Maynooth University. He has previously worked as a primary school teacher, as a researcher in early childhood education and as an inspector with the Department of Education and Skills. His research interests include history of education, curriculum policy and early childhood education.
