College Year

There is one programme intake a year and all courses in MIE start in August/September of the academic year.

The official academic calendar or 'féilire' is published to students on the MIE Moodle page. Incoming students are sent a copy of the calendar in advance of starting the programme.

The MIE academic calendar generally runs from September to December (semester 1) and from January to May (semester 2).

There are generally 9 weeks of teaching/lectures in semester 1 and 9 weeks of teaching/lectures in semester 2 on undergraduate programmes in MIE.

In years 1-3, there are typically 3 weeks of placement in semester 2 and a 10-week block placement for final year students.

Student holidays are generally modelled on public school holidays in Ireland and typically fall as follows:

  • Semester 1 mid-term: 1 week, generally in late October
  • Semester 1 Christmas: 2-3 weeks, generally in early/mid-December to early January
  • Semester 2 mid-term: 1 week, generally in early/mid-February
  • Semester 2 Easter: 2 weeks, generally in March/April
  • Summer holidays: generally from mid-/late-May to late-August/early-September

Key dates for academic courses and programmes are published on the MIE Registrar's Office Moodle page.
