Placement Settings

Placement is a core feature of many of the professional programmes offered at MIE and throughout your studies you will have the opportunity to go out on placement and put your learning and skills into practice in a variety of different educational settings.

In some courses and course years MIE will assign placements to you and in others you will be responsible for organising your own placement.

The drop-down tables below provide further information about the different types of placements on each programme and how these are organised.

Known as "School Placement" in MIE, this is typically completed in a primary school

  • Year 1 Spring Placement:

Known as "Educational Placement" in MIE, this is typically completed in ETBs, Colleges of Further Education, and other suitable Further Education Institutions.

All placements are sourced by student independently. Course levels must meet programme requirements of QQI Levels 1-6 and must be located in an approved setting.

 

Observation Days/Hours

Students may be required to complete a certain number of observation hours/days to familiarise themselves with the students in their setting and to learn from working practitioners prior to completing their assessed placement.

All required observation hours/days must be completed in full prior to commencing the assessed placement.
