General Information

Ireland is part of the EU and the currency used in the Republic of Ireland is the Euro (EUR).

If you travel to Northern Ireland, the currency used is the British pound (GBP).

Ireland is a temperate climate and temperatures, and both summer and winter are generally mild in Ireland.

Temperatures in Ireland throughout the year are generally between 4C - 18C

As it is often damp and wet at all times throughout the year, we strongly recommend investing in a good raincoat before moving to Ireland!

Ireland uses Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)/Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+0), which is the same as the United Kingdom and Portugal.

Ireland also follows Daylight Savings Time to extend evening daylight hours. This means that the clocks change twice a year: on the last Sunday in March (Spring) when clocks go forward and on the last Sunday in October (Fall, more commonly called Autumn in Ireland) when clocks go backward.

An easy way to remember this is "Spring Forward and Fall Back"

MIE campus is located just outside the city centre in Dublin, the capital of Ireland and it is also easily accessible from Dublin Airport.

The voltage in Ireland is 220v and all sockets require 3-pin adapters. This is the same as they use in the United Kingdom.

You will need to go to a bank branch in person to open a bank account. This will be required to secure accommodation in Ireland.

There are a number of shops close to the campus, including the local shop C&T. A larger Tesco and Lidl are located nearby on the Drumcondra Road. Many supermarkets in Ireland also offer click and collect or delivery of groceries.

There are a number of pubs and restaurants near to the campus and the campus is 15 minutes walk from Clontarf.

Fairview Park is also nearby and there are often concerts hosted here during the summer months or you could take the DART from Clontarf Station and travel to either Howth or Dún Laoghaire if you'd like to visit the coast.

Other nearby attractions include the Casino of Marino, the National Botanical Gardens, Glasnevin Cemetery and Croke Park.

MIE is also located about 20 minutes from the city centre and you can take the 73 bus, which stops just outside campus, directly into the city centre.
