Field Placement is the name given to the placement that students on the B.Sc. Early Childhood Education programme complete. This is typically done in early year's education settings with children aged 6 years and under.

This is the name given to the placement students on the B.Sc. Education Studies programme take. This is completed in a variety of different settings across different age ranges, including: Adult Education, Adolescent and Early Childhood settings.

Garda Vetting is a background check that is completed by the National Vetting Bureau of An Garda Síochána, the organised policing force in Ireland. Any students completing working placement with children or vulnerable adults must be Garda vetted prior to taking placement.

Your Garda Vetting will be valid for the duration of your studies in MIE. If you take any time out of your studies, you may be required to renew your Garda Vetting on your return.

If you have lived outside of Ireland for six months or longer, since your 18th birthday, you are required to get a clearance letter from the police of the jurisdiction(s) in question. If your certificate is issued in a language other than English, you must also provide a certified translation of this document.

Yes, students complete placement in every year of their studies on our professional programmes. Placement is generally 3 weeks duration in the first years of your undergraduate degree and culminates in an 8-10 week block placement in your final year.

Placement days give you the opportunity to visit your placement setting and group before your assessed placement begins. This gives you the chance to become familiar with the children/people in your setting and to prepare for any additional needs they may have. It also gives you the chance to learn from the working practitioners in your setting and complete pre-placement documentation.

The placement supervisor supports students when on placement and offers guidance in relation to planning, preparation and practice.

The placement supervisor is also the person who will visit you when you are on your assessed placement.

All registered students at MIE will have access to the Microsoft 365 suite during their studies at MIE. Students will also have access to Wi-Fi services on campus.

Class materials will be uploaded to Moodle, the online platform used in MIE.
