Ceapadh an tOllamh Teresa O’Doherty mar Uachtarán Institiúid Oideachais Marino i mí Bealtaine 2018 agus mar Ollamh Taca i Scoil an Oideachais, Coláiste na Tríonóide, Baile Átha Cliath i 2020.  Is múinteoir, oide, agus bean léinn í le breis is cúig bliana is fichead, agus cáilíodh mar mhúinteoir bunscoile an t-Ollamh O’Doherty i 1984 (Coláiste Mhuire gan Smál, Luimneach).  Bhain sí amach a céim Máistreachta san Oideachas in Ollscoil na hÉireann, Maigh Nuad, i 1989 agus bronnadh céim dochtúireachta uirthi san Oideachas ó Ollscoil Luimnigh i 1997. Mhúin sí ar dtús i Scoil Náisiúnta Cailíní O’Hely agus O’Rourke i gCill Mocheallóg (1984-1991) sular ceapadh í chuig An Mhodh Scoil, Bealach Uí Chonaill, Luimneach (1991-1997). 

Bhí post léachtóra san Oideachais agus post Leas-Déan sa Taighde do Choláiste an Oideachais ag Ollscoil Luimnigh ag an tOllamh O’Doherty ó 1997-2003 agus ceapadh í mar Léachtóir Sinsir ag Coláiste Mhuire gan Smál, Luimneach i 2003. Déanadh Príomh-Léachtóir agus Ceann Dámh an Oideachais di ansin i 2005, agus bhí an phost seo aici go dtí gur ceapadh chun IOM í.
